Most repair shops are a counter and a box of parts. This is a bench built for finding out exactly which component on a board stopped doing its job, and then replacing that one component.

What is on the bench

Stereo microscope

Every board-level repair happens under magnification. The components that fail on a modern board are smaller than the tip of a pen, at 1× they simply cannot be judged.

Bench power supply

A board is fed a controlled current before anything else. What it draws, nothing, a trickle, or a dead short, narrows the fault down before a single component is touched.

Thermal camera

A shorted component heats up before it shows any other sign. The thermal camera points straight at it, which turns hours of probing into a few minutes.

Hot air & soldering station

Temperature-controlled hot air and fine-tip irons lift and reseat chips without cooking the board around them.

Ultrasonic cleaning

Liquid-damaged boards are cleaned in an ultrasonic bath first. Corrosion hides under chips and shields, and it keeps eating the board until it is removed.

Schematics & boardviews

Guesswork is expensive. Working from the manufacturer schematic means following the actual circuit to the actual failure instead of replacing parts hopefully.

  1. Tell us what happened

    Message TCM on TikTok with the device, the fault and, if you can, a short video of what it does. Most problems can be narrowed down before the device even arrives.

  2. Diagnosis on the bench

    The device is opened, inspected under the microscope and measured. The goal is the cause, not the symptom: a television with no picture and a television with a failed backlight driver are two different repairs.

  3. You get the verdict and the price

    You are told what failed, what it takes to fix it and what it costs, before any work starts. If a repair is not worth it, you hear that too.

  4. The repair, then the testing

    The fix is carried out, then the device is put back under load and run properly before it goes home with you. A repair that only holds up on the bench is not a finished repair.

The bench runs on brand-name professional instruments rather than improvised tooling, because a repair is only ever as accurate as the equipment measuring it.
